Position: Senior Director of US Taxation

The Senior Director of US Taxation will be based in our Toronto office and will be responsible for overseeing US tax operations across various subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide continuous US tax guidance and advice on operational, financial, and acquisition transactions to optimize tax exposure while enhancing economic benefits.
  • Assist in the formulation and execution of effective tax strategies and planning initiatives aimed at achieving substantial tax savings.
  • Supervise and mentor tax personnel while directing US tax compliance efforts to ensure timely filing and payment of taxes as required by governmental authorities.
  • Manage mid-year and annual US tax expense provisions for financial reporting purposes.
  • Oversee all US tax audits conducted by external auditors and address tax issues in a cost-effective manner.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international accountants, auditors, tax authorities, and external advisors.
  • Coordinate merger and acquisition activities from a US tax perspective, including tax structuring, due diligence, and valuation inputs.
  • Review transfer pricing activities and develop robust methodologies and documentation for cross-border transactions.
  • Stay informed about US tax regulations, standards, and relevant matters to ensure compliance.
  • Advise management on significant tax impacts and secure support for tax-related issues.
  • Engage with industry groups to remain updated on tax developments and concerns.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with various departments and business units.

Ideal Qualifications:
  • Over ten years of experience in US tax planning, consulting, compliance, and international tax for multinational corporations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of U.S. tax laws, regulations, and treaties.
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA/CA) is required.
  • Strong business acumen and financial judgment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with executives, management, peers, and external stakeholders.
  • A minimum of five years in a supervisory or managerial role to develop essential leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated, diligent, and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
