Position Overview

In alignment with the core values of Tamir, the Residential Care Facilitator plays a vital role in empowering participants to reach their personal aspirations, sustain optimal health, and cultivate self-esteem through tailored support strategies designed to cater to each individual's unique preferences and requirements.

Under the guidance of the Program Supervisor, Residential Care Facilitators are entrusted with the daily care of individuals supported by Tamir, whether in residential settings or within the community. All activities are conducted in accordance with Tamir's vision, mission, and values, adhering to the principles of the Quality Enhancement (QE) initiative. These principles emphasize respect for participants, ensuring their safety and well-being, providing meaningful choices and activities, and assisting individuals in achieving their personal goals through our personalized outcome planning process.

Employment Type: Permanent Part Time

Salary: $27.34-$28.91 per hour

Schedule: Weekends only - flexibility to take on additional hours based on operational needs

Key Responsibilities

Participant Engagement and Advocacy

  1. Establish a respectful, positive, and consistent rapport with participants.
  2. Understand the personal background, strengths, and needs of participants, and collaborate in the creation and execution of Personal Outcome Plans (POP's) with participants, Primary Counsellors, families, and other significant individuals.
  3. Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and supervisors regarding participant progress and any arising issues.
  4. Advocate within community organizations, employers, and other stakeholders to enhance the involvement of individuals with developmental disabilities.
  5. Familiarize oneself with and facilitate participation in Jewish cultural and religious practices, while also supporting non-Jewish individuals in engaging in cultural and religious activities of their choice.
  6. Assist with personal care tasks including nutrition, hygiene, and grooming; ensure maintenance of clothing and personal belongings as necessary.
  7. Support participants in managing their personal finances as needed.
  8. Administer medications and treatments as required, following Tamir protocols.
  9. Promote and uphold the mental and physical health of participants while ensuring a safe and healthy living/program environment.
  10. Encourage participants to engage in recreational, educational, employment, or other interests identified in their POP.
  11. Facilitate the development of active and supportive networks for participants.
  12. Identify and advocate for necessary changes in support systems that may hinder the achievement of participant goals, in collaboration with the Primary Counsellor and/or Supervisor.
  13. Empower individuals to exercise choice and take responsibility for their decisions while balancing safety and security needs.

Administrative Duties

  1. Familiarize oneself with and adhere to Tamir policies and procedures, as well as operational guidelines and relevant legislation from the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
  2. Operate in accordance with Tamir health and safety policies and procedures, following safe practices.
  3. Maintain accurate documentation for all responsibilities, as per established Tamir policies, including daily logs, incident reports, and financial records.
  4. Report any unsafe conditions, damages, or hazards to the Program Supervisor.
  5. Ensure confidentiality and maintain comprehensive information for each participant.
  6. Complete all mandatory training requirements as scheduled; keep security and medical checks current.
  7. Perform administrative tasks as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
  8. Assist in the orientation and training of program staff and volunteers.

Working Environment

  1. Engagement with individuals requiring support to manage emotional, psychological, and physical behavioral challenges.
  2. Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  3. Completion of general household tasks that may involve lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, or twisting.
  4. Assisting with the mobility of individuals who require support.
  5. Addressing personal needs of participants.
  6. Possibility of working independently.
  7. Must possess the ability to operate a vehicle.

Qualifications

  1. DSW, or a Degree/Diploma in Social Sciences, health administration, or a related field, along with 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred; OR
  2. A high school diploma with 2 years of relevant experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  3. A valid G class driver's license is preferred, with a clean driving record.
  4. Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  5. Basic word processing skills (MS Word preferred).
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills.
