Position Overview:

As a key member of the Operations team at Maple Leaf Foods, the selected individual will play a vital role in the formulation, execution, and upkeep of the organization's Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) initiatives, protocols, systems, and documentation for the Heritage Plant. This role is crucial in ensuring adherence to legislative requirements and maintaining compliance within the plant through active engagement with operational activities. Responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, aiding in the creation of safe work practices, conducting training sessions, managing claims, and evaluating and mitigating risks to minimize accidents and injuries. The overarching aim is to standardize safe operational methods and identify critical behaviors to foster a top-tier health and safety program. The chosen candidate will be actively involved in all health and safety endeavors associated with the Heritage Plant.

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Develop and outline Safe Work Procedures (SWP) that detail essential job steps, associated hazards, and risk management strategies to enhance OHS maturity.
  • Enforce the organization's Golden Rules and other safety programs through collaborative team meetings.
  • Maintain OHS metrics and documentation, with the capability to present findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Design and implement training programs for employees, management, and Safety Committee members to meet regulatory standards and enhance Health, Safety, Emergency, and Security protocols.
  • Assist in reducing health and safety risks through on-site behavioral assessments and targeted audits.
  • Support Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) for new equipment, structures, or processes, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate on-site contractor OHS programs for regulatory compliance.
  • Provide assistance during accident responses, including first aid and ensuring thorough investigations are conducted.
  • Support emergency management initiatives, including drills and evacuation procedures, and assist in the incident command structure during actual emergencies.
  • Oversee content and data analysis for supporting software related to departmental programs.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation for all programs under your responsibility.
  • Ensure data integrity and confidentiality of employee information.
  • Influence and support various levels of management within the organization.
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in progressively responsible health and safety roles.
  • Experience supporting a large client group in a dynamic environment is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training for on-site personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Labour or Ministry of the Environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with WSIB claims management is beneficial.
