The Safety Advisor will collaborate closely with the National Health and Safety Manager, playing a pivotal role in the planning, execution, and assessment of various health and safety initiatives aimed at strengthening Northland's safety framework while undertaking multiple responsibilities to enhance the well-being of our team members.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct site inspections and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) to ensure the proper use of safety equipment and to identify potential hazards related to equipment, materials, and processes.
- Investigate health and safety complaints, incidents, and accidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Enforce compliance with Northland's and governmental health and safety regulations on-site.
- Organize and lead site safety meetings and toolbox talks, ensuring all participants are documented.
- Proactively identify unsafe conditions during weekly meetings and develop preemptive safety strategies.
- Deliver project orientations and training sessions to ensure all team members are familiar with safety standards and procedures.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the company's Health and Safety program, including standard operating procedures and training initiatives.
- Engage with decision-makers and team members to promote adherence to health and safety legislation.
- Maintain site cleanliness through regular housekeeping efforts.
- Coordinate with the Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) and relevant parties regarding injured team members and facilitate their return to work.
- Manage all administrative aspects of site safety, including documentation and incident reporting.
- Ensure timely execution of safety coordination activities, particularly during non-routine work hours.
- Support the cultivation of a positive company culture and represent Northland Properties professionally.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Construction Health and Safety role.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and relevant Provincial Safety standards.
- Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) Minimum Level 2 certification is required.
- Preferred: CEGEP Trade Certificate or equivalent.
- Experience in establishing new work areas and safety boards.
- Ability to conduct fire extinguisher inspections.
- Equipment and machinery certifications are an asset.
- Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, and capable of motivating colleagues.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while leading by example.
