About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a Social Worker, you will play a vital role in providing ongoing services to parents and children, and collaborating with program areas to assess families for the placement of children.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Social Worker, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with individuals, families, and communities to build resilience and address challenges and trauma.
  • Planning, developing, and monitoring case plans with birth families, kinship caregivers, foster parents, adopting parents, and childcare staff.
  • Working closely with the community and advocating for connections to community resources.
  • Participating in risk assessments, court testimonies, and evaluations.
  • Planning with and supervising children in care of the Minister.
  • Recruiting, preparing, assessing, and supporting foster and adoptive parents.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A completed Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work degree.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW).

Working Conditions

As a Social Worker, you will spend most of your time meeting with clients in their homes or with service providers, which may involve considerable driving time. You will work in a comfortable office environment with flexible working options available. You may be required to work beyond regular business hours on short notice, including weekends and after-hours.
