Candidates should possess relevant laboratory experience and familiarity with the specific research methodologies employed by the hiring laboratory. Under supervision, they will conduct experiments by adhering to established laboratory protocols and will report to the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designated authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute a range of established technical procedures in accordance with documented protocols.
- Document results, including data entry into computer systems.
- Provide feedback on procedural modifications as requested by the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designated authority.
- Manage and preserve test materials and products.
- Oversee the inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- May instruct less experienced assistants on work methods or procedures as designated.
- Secure patient consent for study participation, arrange appointments, and manage databases.
Qualifications
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Bachelor of Science) is required, along with two (2) years of recent experience in a research laboratory setting. Candidates with a medical background and prior research experience involving patient interaction, or those pursuing careers in healthcare, are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should possess:
- Experience working with patients in a clinical environment.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills, a solid work ethic, and attention to detail.

- A commitment to fostering meaningful reconciliation in Canada, in accordance with TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Awareness of the social, economic, political, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, along with knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Salary Range: $57,447 - $75,268 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated for part-time roles.
