Lead Laboratory Assistants Supervisor

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities of Laboratory Assistants and other assigned personnel by managing tasks such as work scheduling, coordination, and prioritization of assignments. Assist in evaluating staff performance and identifying training needs.
- Execute administrative tasks including the compilation of pending reports, patient communication as directed, handling phone inquiries, and entering patient data and test results into the laboratory information system. Address inquiries from healthcare professionals regarding laboratory matters.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of a Laboratory Assistant as necessary, which includes specimen collection, preparation, testing, and associated clerical tasks.
- Contribute to the department's orientation and policy manual by providing insights related to the functions performed by Laboratory Assistants at the designated location.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment in accordance with established protocols.
- Maintain departmental workload records and statistical data; conduct quality assurance audits as per established guidelines; prepare related reports and summaries utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Carry out additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized Lab Assistant training program, along with three years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with others.
- Physical capability to perform the duties associated with the position.
- Supervisory abilities.
- Organizational skills to manage work effectively.
- Competence in operating relevant equipment.
- Commitment to fostering reconciliation and understanding in Canada, in alignment with TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of the socio-economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples, and familiarity with initiatives addressing anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety.
