Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of Laboratory Assistants and other assigned personnel by executing tasks such as organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing work duties, aiding in performance evaluations, and identifying necessary training and orientation.
  • Conduct administrative tasks including compiling pending reports, communicating with patients as instructed by the Team Lead, managing phone inquiries, and inputting patient data and test outcomes into the laboratory information system. Address laboratory-related questions from other healthcare professionals.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a Laboratory Assistant as needed, which includes specimen collection, preparation, testing, and associated clerical tasks.
  • Contribute to the department's orientation and policy manual by providing insights on areas relevant to the work performed by Laboratory Assistants at the designated location.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain statistical and departmental workload records; perform quality assurance audits as per established guidelines; prepare related quarterly, monthly, and ad hoc reports; utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Undertake additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12, successful attainment of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, along with three years of recent, relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
  • Commitment to fostering meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Knowledge of the social, economic, political, and historical contexts of settler colonialism affecting Indigenous Peoples, and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism and cultural safety principles.
