Position Overview: The Child and Adolescent Recreation Specialist will play a vital role in providing therapeutic support to children experiencing mental health challenges and their families. As a key member of the interdisciplinary team within the Children's Intensive Services, this position is accountable to the Manager and focuses on delivering client and family-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify the recreational and leisure needs of youth.
  • Develop tailored interventions aimed at fostering positive leisure experiences that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Collaborate with families and the interdisciplinary team to enhance the leisure involvement of children facing mental health issues.
  • Design and implement individual, family, and group interventions that promote the development of lifelong leisure skills.
  • Document intervention plans and evaluate their effectiveness in a timely manner.

Work Schedule: Flexible hours, Monday to Friday, totaling 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in child/adolescent recreation therapy within a mental health context.
  • Completion of a Basic Life Support (BLS) Program within the last year.
  • Knowledge of best practices in leisure and recreation assessment and intervention.
  • Familiarity with leisure education and counseling processes.
  • Understanding of various mental and physical health conditions and their implications for well-being.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and independently.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to family-centered care and the promotion of community relationships.
  • Competencies in additional languages are considered an asset.
