Position Overview: The role of the Clinical Psychologist involves collaboration on various projects and sharing insights with fellow psychologists across diverse practice areas. The successful candidate will engage actively in the training of residents within the CPA-approved Predoctoral Residency Program in Pediatric and Child-Adolescent Psychology.
Program Details: The Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Program at IWK Health Centre offers a comprehensive range of mental health services, including outpatient community mental health, day treatment, and residential care for children and adolescents. The Adolescent Intensive Services (AIS) Program caters to adolescents aged 13 to 19 facing mental health and/or substance use challenges, providing both ambulatory and non-acute inpatient services.
Service Delivery: The AIS Day Service includes multiple streams focusing on trauma, internalizing, externalizing, and concurrent disorders. Patients participate in structured programming from Monday to Friday, which encompasses therapeutic schooling and various intervention strategies aimed at achieving their treatment objectives. The treatment phases span approximately six to seven months, combining onsite and community-based services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychological assessments and develop tailored programs.
- Provide evidence-based mental health interventions, including group, family, and individual therapy.
- Supervise staff and offer consultation to colleagues and community service providers.
- Engage in program evaluation and contribute to service development.
- Educate parents and staff through skills-based training initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D./PsyD in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an APA or CPA Accredited Predoctoral Internship in Psychology.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology.
- A minimum of five years of formal training and clinical experience in child/adolescent mental health, including at least two years as a licensed psychologist.
- Demonstrated expertise in assessing and treating youth and families facing mental health and/or addiction issues.
- Proficiency in providing both family and individual therapy.
- Experience in clinical supervision and consultation with other professionals.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and conflict resolution skills.
- Commitment to evidence-informed practice and the ability to contribute to clinical training activities.
