The Native Women's Association of Canada is in search of a Chief Operating Officer to guide the organization in fulfilling its Mission and Vision, while also driving growth and revenue to support Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is tasked with ensuring the efficiency, stability, and functionality of the organization's daily operations. The COO will manage the operational aspects of the organization under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer.

SCOPE

The COO will oversee the effectiveness of NWAC's daily operations. This role is integral to the senior management team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The incumbent will play a crucial role in fostering the organization's ongoing growth and success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to establish and drive the organizational vision, operational strategy, and staffing requirements;
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable goals for performance and growth, facilitating organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operational planning;
  • Supervise operations and employee productivity, fostering an inclusive culture that enables team members to excel and achieve organizational outcomes;
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, federal, provincial, and local business regulations, taking corrective action when necessary;
  • Design and implement operational and business strategies, plans, and procedures;
  • Set comprehensive performance and growth goals;
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to address daily operational demands and delegate tasks effectively;
  • Develop and enforce policies that promote the organizational culture and mandate;
  • Oversee the daily operations of the organization, including management of Policy, Corporate, Marketing, Finance, etc.;
  • Inspire employees to achieve maximum performance, morale, and commitment;
  • Assess organizational performance through data analysis and interpretation of metrics;
  • Provide briefings to the Chief Executive Officer and prepare reports on significant matters;
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in fundraising and revenue generation initiatives;
  • Participate in expansion activities, including investments and program development;
  • Manage relationships with partners and vendors;
  • Support the development and execution of measurable revenue generation programs across NWAC's Social and Cultural Innovation Centre revenue streams;
  • Create and implement promotional and sales strategies for all revenue streams;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's and/or master's degree in business administration or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in executive leadership roles, preferably within a large non-profit organization.
  • 10 years of management experience.
  • 10 years in leadership positions.
  • 10 years of experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Direct supervision of over 10 staff for a minimum of five years.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring successful project and program delivery.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

The candidate must possess proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, business acumen, and strong work ethics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and globally, including their cultures, histories, and traditions.
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary issues affecting Indigenous business in Canada.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous issues and standards relevant to the promotion and protection of Indigenous women's rights.
  • Awareness of key challenges impacting Indigenous women and girls in Canada and internationally.
  • Understanding of social policy, including violence prevention and its impacts, health, housing, etc.
  • Strong grasp of finance and budgeting principles.

Skills

The candidate must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Knowledge of advanced business planning and regulatory considerations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics.
