The Abbotsford School District is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Elementary Itinerant Counsellor to join our team. As a key member of our District Learning Support Services team, you will provide emotional, social, and behavioral support to identified students across multiple elementary schools.
Key Responsibilities- Provide ongoing support to students, parents, and families through direct support or referrals to community agencies.
- Collaborate with School-Based Teams and integrated care teams to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Liaise with district and community agencies to access resources and programs for students.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies to provide support for students and families.
- Master's Degree in Counselling with a counselling practicum relevant to the school environment.
- Experience as a school counsellor at the Elementary Level.
- Training in violence, threat, risk assessment (VTRA) and non-violent crisis intervention certification.
- Eligibility for B.C. Certification.
- Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum report.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate, and respectful manner.
- Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
- Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students' interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning.
- Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
- Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive, and supportive of all students.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.
