Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned by management, which are not exhaustive of all requirements for the role.
  • Ensure adherence to all departmental safety standards, policies, and procedures. This role requires promoting and enforcing safety compliance among all personnel and contractors.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Bunge's PQSE policies and ensure consistent compliance, ensuring that safety and housekeeping programs are effectively implemented.
  • Regularly monitor departmental processes through visual inspections and HMI (computer) screens, ensuring all equipment and processes are operated safely and efficiently.
  • Make necessary adjustments to processes to meet product quality targets in collaboration with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Make operational decisions to minimize plant operation at reduced rates and to mitigate the risk of unscheduled downtime.
  • Communicate any issues to Production Supervisors that may negatively impact safety, production, product quality, or equipment longevity.
  • Collect and accurately label all required samples.
  • Assist in the initiation and execution of tasks related to starting and stopping plant processes and equipment, whether planned or unplanned, while minimizing product loss and potential equipment damage.
  • Support personnel during shutdowns to ensure:
    • Proper isolation, locking, and tagging of equipment for safe maintenance.
    • Compliance with safety procedures, including the use of appropriate PPE and tools.
    • Effective utilization of personnel to minimize plant downtime, including routine equipment maintenance and preparation for maintenance work.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all equipment and processes involved in the production of canola oil and meal, including preparation, extraction, and steam plant systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate equipment and processes safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with shift crew members, maintenance staff, and contractors to ensure all departmental work is conducted safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation, ensuring the precision of all departmental records and production reports.
  • Exhibit self-motivation and initiative in monitoring and controlling departmental activities while making operational decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Note: All employees must be trained and evaluated to confirm their capability to perform this role safely and efficiently. The Production Technician is authorized to operate in all areas of the plant except the Control Room and Boiler Room, which includes operations in the preparation and extraction plants, as well as completing required QC testing daily for each area of responsibility. Production Technicians will rotate through the Prep Plant and Extraction Plant to gain familiarity with operational processes and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license in Alberta (Class 5 or equivalent) is required.
  • Completion of Grade 12 education is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 4th Class Power Engineering Certification or higher is necessary.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including days and nights, as business needs dictate.
