Clinical Social Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Worker to join our Child and Adolescent Services team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Social Worker, you will work with children and adolescents up to the 19th birthday, providing assessment and treatment for mental health or concurrent disorders. Our team is a multi-discipline service that includes psychology, social work, psychiatry, addiction clinical therapists, and behavioral interventionists. We provide services in the main outpatient clinic, schools, and satellite clinics, including individual, family-based, or group therapy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work flexibly to best meet the needs of clients and the service.
About You- We are looking for a Master's of Social Work with a specialization in a clinical or mental health stream, or a Master's Degree in Social Work from an acceptable educational institution with a significant portion of coursework focused on mental health disorders and treatment.
- Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work is required.
- Two years of clinical experience in an inpatient/outpatient mental health setting, providing independent assessment and treatment of adult mental health disorders is necessary.
- Competence in assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group), and research is essential.
- Specialized knowledge of acute and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders is required.
- Knowledge and competence in evidenced-based interventions such as CBT, and risk assessment are necessary.
- Evidence of knowledge and ability to complete mental health assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment using the DSM-5 is required.
- Working knowledge of psychotropic pharmacology is necessary.
- Understanding of substance use, abuse, and dependency is required.
- Knowledge of standards that guide the profession is essential.
- Knowledge of and ability to link to community resources is necessary.
- Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships is required.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation is essential.
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices, and organizational health is necessary.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
- This is a permanent full-time position, with 75 hours biweekly.
The hourly rate for this position is $37.31-$49.05. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
