Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Director of Purchasing to lead our procurement initiatives. This position is integral to our operations and will report directly to the Vice-President of Supply Chain.

Role Summary

The ideal candidate will be passionate about transforming the Purchasing function. This role oversees our North American Purchasing operations, managing an operational budget of $1 billion, which includes procurement of resins, additives, components, packaging, indirect goods, corporate services, IT, and minor capital expenditures. The Director will play a pivotal role in strategic planning, execution, and optimization of Purchasing activities across the USA and Canada, leading a team of 40 professionals while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure effective and economical Purchasing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all facets of North American Purchasing Operations, including requisition and purchase order management, supplier negotiations, and supplier relationship management.
  • Manage both Direct and Indirect Purchasing related to manufacturing and corporate functions, with a total portfolio value of $1.2 billion.
  • Lead a diverse team of approximately 40 members across North America, optimizing the Purchasing structure to align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Finance to manage internal control risks within Purchasing operations and implement necessary mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze Purchasing performance metrics, identifying areas for enhancement and executing corrective actions as needed.
  • Establish and govern monthly KPI scorecard reviews to celebrate achievements, identify gaps, and formulate corrective actions.
  • Oversee the integration of Purchasing operations from acquired companies.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the Purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading Purchasing and Sourcing functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or engineering.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the commercial and technical aspects of Purchasing, including regulatory compliance and global trade.
  • Proficiency in SAP and other relevant Purchasing technology platforms.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a proven ability to build collaborative partnerships with suppliers.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a focus on team development and performance management.
  • Experience in Purchasing management within automotive, industrial, or FMCG sectors.
  • Ability to engage with all organizational levels, adapting communication styles as necessary.
  • Proven success in fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage data-driven solutions using advanced analytics methodologies.
  • Experience in transforming operational processes with a track record of engaging teams throughout the transition.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to influence beyond direct authority.
