Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Director of Purchasing to lead our North American Purchasing operations. This pivotal role is based in our corporate offices and reports directly to the Vice-President of Supply Chain.
Role Summary
The ideal candidate will be instrumental in transforming the Purchasing function, overseeing an operational budget of $1 billion. This includes managing procurement for resin, additives, components, packaging, and corporate services. The Director will be responsible for strategic planning, execution, and optimization of Purchasing activities across the USA and Canada, leading a team of 40 professionals and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure effective Purchasing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all facets of North American Purchasing Operations, including requisition and purchase order management, supplier negotiations, and delivery oversight.
- Manage both Direct and Indirect Purchasing related to manufacturing and corporate functions, with a total portfolio value of $1.2 billion.
- Lead and develop a diverse team of approximately 40 members across North America, aligning the Purchasing structure with the company's strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with Finance to manage internal control risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Analyze Purchasing performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities and execute necessary corrective actions.
- Establish and govern monthly KPI reviews to celebrate achievements and address gaps, along with conducting Quarterly Business Reviews for strategic supplier performance.
- Integrate the Purchasing operations of newly acquired companies.
- Provide visionary leadership to the Purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Purchasing and Sourcing management.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of the commercial and technical aspects of Purchasing, including regulatory compliance and global trade.
- Proficiency in SAP and other relevant Purchasing technology platforms.
- Strong negotiation skills and a proven ability to build collaborative relationships with suppliers.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a focus on people management and achieving results.
- Experience in Purchasing management within Automotive, Industrial, or FMCG sectors.
- Ability to engage with all organizational levels and adapt communication styles accordingly.
- Proven success in fostering collaborative relationships across supply chain functions and with external suppliers.
- Ability to leverage data-driven solutions and analytics for decision-making.
- Experience in transforming operational processes and engaging teams in change initiatives.
- Strong commercial acumen and leadership influence.
