Hybrid Work Schedule: Remote Option: Monday & Friday / In-Office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent, 40HRs/WK.

Reports To: Commercial Manager.

Position Overview

The Senior Project Financial Controller is instrumental in overseeing the financial management, scheduling, risk assessment, and change control of projects. This role entails supervising budget preparation, cost monitoring, and financial forecasting to ensure the project's fiscal integrity. Additionally, it involves developing and maintaining project timelines to guarantee the timely achievement of milestones while identifying and mitigating potential risks to protect project schedules and budgets. Effective change management is essential, requiring the management of scope modifications while ensuring all impacts are accurately documented and communicated. Regular and detailed project reporting to stakeholders is also a key responsibility, ensuring transparency and effective communication. Leadership and development of the project control team are critical, ensuring team members are motivated, well-trained, and equipped to meet project demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Control Systems Development: Leading the creation and implementation of comprehensive project control systems that effectively monitor project progress, budget tracking, and timeline management.
  • Standardization of Processes: Establishing standardized project control procedures across all projects to enhance consistency and efficiency.
  • Training and Development: Organizing training initiatives for project controllers and related personnel to ensure proficiency in utilizing new systems and processes.
  • Reporting System Development: Creating a systematic approach for generating and distributing reports that provide critical insights into project status, financial health, and risk exposure.
  • Integration of Control Tools: Ensuring that project control tools are seamlessly integrated into daily project operations.
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Regularly assessing the effectiveness of existing project control processes and systems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with key stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure project control systems align with organizational needs.

General Duties:

  • Collaborate with operations management to define and establish control baselines, develop project schedules, set budgets, and monitor progress.
  • Provide accurate and current cost information to operations management for informed decision-making.
  • Assist in analyzing project schedules and cost reports, recommending corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure forecasts are integrated according to client and company standards.
  • Monitor planning and track progress and milestones using the project schedule.
  • Support area managers and site project controllers in managing documentation for scope changes.
  • Maintain clear communication of project coding with accounting, purchasing, and operations teams.
  • Oversee timesheet entries and purchase orders to ensure accurate project billing and expenditures.
  • Analyze performance data, identify trends, and collaborate with operations teams to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in preparing close-out reports and maintaining historical cost and production data.
  • Prepare and issue regular progress and status reports as required.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Report any health and safety hazards or infractions to the appropriate department.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Project Controllers.

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel may be necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A University degree in a relevant field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP) designation or equivalent experience.
  • Over 10 years of experience in project controls with extensive expertise in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and estimating.
  • Significant experience working on large-scale projects, preferably in the mining sector.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, InEight (Hard Dollar), and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Oracle's JD Edwards software suite, particularly the Project Management Products.
  • Knowledge of Data Access Studio by ReportsNow is advantageous.
  • Experience with 4castPlus or similar Project Management software.
