Maintenance Operations Manager

Join our dynamic team as a Maintenance Operations Manager, where you will oversee the upkeep of mill machinery and lead the maintenance team while ensuring a professional service delivery and a secure working atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and uphold the safety protocols for the maintenance division; assess safety records to maintain the highest safety standards for all maintenance personnel.
  • Guide the maintenance team utilizing advanced technologies for both preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Manage environmental initiatives related to the maintenance sector.
  • Design, execute, and oversee the plant maintenance strategy grounded in industry best practices, focusing on planning, scheduling, and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Supervise the inventory and usage of spare parts, maintenance materials, and tools, initiating reorders as needed.
  • Establish and sustain a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to monitor work orders, spare parts, and maintenance records of plant machinery.
  • Generate reports, analyze data, and propose enhancements for plant operations and resolution of maintenance challenges.
  • Oversee the maintenance staff.
  • Ensure maintenance technicians receive adequate training, resources, and motivation to achieve the maintenance objectives safely, promptly, and cost-effectively.
  • Maintain open communication with all maintenance staff, both individually and collectively, to facilitate effective dialogue regarding maintenance concerns.
  • Assist in the recruitment of maintenance staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for employees based on job roles to assess skills, knowledge, and contributions of maintenance technicians.
  • Keep operating and training manuals for the maintenance division current and relevant.
  • Continuously review the performance of plant machinery and systems to minimize unexpected downtimes, proactively address issues, and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Initiate and execute projects aimed at boosting efficiency and/or reducing operational expenses.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and enhance key maintenance metrics such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, PM compliance, and schedule adherence.
  • Uphold safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Preferred post-secondary education; Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is a significant advantage.
  • 5-7 years of experience in heavy industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing is beneficial.
  • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective preventive/predictive maintenance strategies and methodologies.
  • Project management experience is advantageous.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, leading by example, and ensuring team compliance with all policies and regulations.

  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Strong business acumen, with experience managing and adhering to budgets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams and schematics.
