Position Overview

As a Maintenance Superintendent, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the upkeep of mill machinery and leading the maintenance team while ensuring a professional service is delivered in a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and uphold the safety protocols within the maintenance division; assess safety documentation to maintain the highest safety standards for all maintenance personnel.
  • Guide the maintenance team utilizing cutting-edge technologies for both preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Manage environmental initiatives related to the maintenance sector.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee the plant maintenance strategy based on industry best practices, focusing on planning, scheduling, and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Monitor inventory levels of spare parts and maintenance supplies, initiating reorders as required.
  • Establish and manage a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track work orders, spare parts, and maintenance records of plant machinery.
  • Generate reports, analyze data, and provide recommendations for enhancing plant operations and addressing maintenance challenges.
  • Supervise maintenance staff effectively.
  • Ensure maintenance technicians receive proper training, tools, and motivation to execute the maintenance program safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
  • Foster open communication with all maintenance technicians, both individually and collectively, to facilitate effective dialogue regarding maintenance concerns.
  • Assist in the recruitment of maintenance staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for maintenance personnel based on established job criteria to assess skills, knowledge, and contributions.
  • Maintain and revise operational and training manuals for the maintenance division.
  • Continuously evaluate the performance of plant equipment and systems to minimize unexpected downtime, proactively address issues, and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Initiate and execute projects aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational expenses.
  • Track, evaluate, and enhance key maintenance metrics such as asset utilization, maintenance expenditures, PM compliance, and schedule adherence.
  • Uphold safety, health, and environmental regulations and practices.

Qualifications

  • Preferred post-secondary education; degrees in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering are highly regarded.
  • 5-7 years of experience in heavy industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in wood products manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of effective preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards, leading by example, and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to operate within a budget.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competence in reading diagrams and schematics.
