Job Summary

FortisBC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator to join our Community and Indigenous Initiatives department. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in building and maintaining relationships with local communities, municipalities, and Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to foster positive relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
  • Provide support to the Community and Indigenous Initiatives team, including municipal and Indigenous community engagement, tracking and reporting, event planning, and coordination.
  • Attend internal and external project meetings, develop and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences, and perform administrative duties as assigned.
  • Build upon relationships between FortisBC and local communities, municipalities, and Indigenous communities.

Requirements

  • A keen interest in community and relationship building, including municipal and Indigenous community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for working with people.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • An ability to convey complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner in order to influence positive change.
  • Good verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women & Girls Inquiry Calls for Justice, as well as British Columbia's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office.

Additional Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of the utility industry.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Experience in business case development.

Education and Qualifications

  • Indigenous post-secondary graduate from a trades or technical program, diploma, degree or higher level of education program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations [status or non-status], Métis or Inuit).
  • Be a BC resident.
  • Hold a valid Social Insurance Number and be able to work for a period of two years.
  • A valid BC Driver's License and ability to travel throughout FortisBC service areas.
