We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator to join our Community and Indigenous Initiatives department at FortisBC. This is a temporary 2-year position that will support our Indigenous Initiatives in various tasks, including internal and external stakeholder engagement and major projects initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain relationships between FortisBC and local communities, municipalities, and Indigenous communities.
- Provide support to the Community & Indigenous Initiatives team, including:
- Municipal and Indigenous community engagement;
- Tracking and reporting;
- Communications event planning, coordination, and attendance;
- Attending internal and external project meetings;
- Developing and delivering presentations to internal and external audiences;
- Performing administrative duties as assigned.
- A keen interest in community and relationship building, including municipal and Indigenous community engagement;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for working with people;
- Strong organizational and project management skills;
- An ability to convey complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner in order to influence positive change;
- Good verbal and written communication, and presentation skills;
- Understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women & Girls Inquiry Calls for Justice, as well as British Columbia's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
- Ability to work well with minimal supervision;
- Computer proficiency with MS Office.
- Knowledge of the utility industry;
- Knowledge of SharePoint;
- Experience in business case development.
As part of the program expectations, all successful candidates are required to:
- Work with their university to prepare application documents;
- Commit to a two-year employment placement;
- Fulfill all job requirements as agreed to with their employer;
- Be responsible for transportation to and from work and their personal daily accommodations and expenses;
- Be available for regular check-ins by phone or email;
- Participate in training opportunities developed by the First Nations Public Service Secretariat and delivered as part of the IILP.
