Flexibility to work beyond standard hours may be necessary based on program requirements.

Travel and coverage at other locations may be required.

Our team operates within the youth justice system to assist young individuals and their families in navigating the complexities of the process. We recognize the challenges involved and provide support throughout. Collaboratively, we work with the youth to formulate an action plan aimed at achieving their immediate and long-term objectives. Additionally, we connect them and their families with essential community resources tailored to their unique needs.

Under the supervision of the program leader, the Youth Justice Worker collaborates with young individuals to devise community-based intervention strategies that address their strengths and needs while fostering healing and reintegration into their communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Engagement:

  • Identify and develop community referral resources for clients, families, and victims. Engage suitable volunteer opportunities that are meaningful for clients and beneficial to the community.
  • Ensure proper alignment between clients and services/placements, making them accessible to a diverse clientele.

Assessment and Case Management:

  • Evaluate and assess client referrals. Conduct intake assessments; provide services addressing risks, barriers, and protective factors for vulnerable youth.
  • Clearly communicate criminal justice processes to clients, including court procedures and community service requirements.
  • Ensure that sanctions, referrals, programming, and community service placements are appropriate and meaningful, meeting the needs of clients, victims, and the community.
  • Utilize crisis intervention skills to manage incidents and monitor client progress; document outcomes for each case.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain a centralized case management system to track the progress of a high-volume caseload.
  • Communicate daily with referral sources for program administration.
  • Submit documents and reports accurately and promptly, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Administer program evaluation tools as needed.

Program Oversight:

  • Utilize analytical skills to monitor operations and report any compliance issues immediately.
  • Employ critical judgment to assess incidents and discuss them with relevant authorities as necessary.
  • Participate in program evaluation and quality assurance initiatives based on best practices.
  • Ensure contract obligations are fulfilled as defined by funding sources.

Group Facilitation:

  • Deliver both in-person and virtual group programming as required.
  • Manage resistance and challenging behaviors effectively.
  • Availability may include daytime and evening hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related fields.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with youth who have faced trauma, utilizing a trauma-informed approach.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of systemic barriers affecting youth and their experiences.
  • Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and its application, including principles of proportionality and reparation.
  • Experience engaging with diverse populations and applying a culturally responsive approach in all interactions.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement creative community-based interventions that address individual strengths and needs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in crisis prevention and intervention.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong administrative and time management skills for accurate report preparation.
  • Ability to represent the organization positively in outreach efforts.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.
