Overview of the Position

The Internal Medicine Department at Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dedicated full-time Respirologist to enhance the medical team. This role is situated within a well-equipped healthcare facility, providing comprehensive services to the community.

The department encompasses various subspecialties, including General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Endocrinology, Respirology, and Intensive Care.
The facility utilizes MedAccess for electronic medical records.
Services offered include echocardiography, exercise stress testing with nuclear imaging, pacemaker management, therapeutic endoscopy, pulmonary function tests, and a Sleep Lab. A Nurse Practitioner leads the Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic in collaboration with Internal Medicine Physicians, supported by two full-time Respiratory Therapists.

Compensation is structured on a fee-for-service basis, complemented by flexible vacation arrangements. Additionally, specialists benefit from call stipends and various incentives as outlined in the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia.

The institution is affiliated with a prominent medical school, allowing physicians to apply for faculty positions, thereby contributing to the education of residents and learners. There are also opportunities to engage with the upcoming Medical Campus initiative.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide inpatient and outpatient consultative services across the Eastern Zone. The facility operates as a 90-bed acute-care hospital. The Respirologist will collaborate with a collegial group of internal medicine professionals, participating in the Internal Medicine call schedule and providing necessary inpatient and emergency department consultations, including coverage for the medical/surgical/cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Work Schedule

This position requires full-time commitment with designated outpatient clinic hours and a call rotation of 1:6.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or be eligible to undertake the Fellowship Examination in Internal Medicine. Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is also required.

Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is essential.
