Building Science Technologist Role

Join Our Building Science Team

Location: Peterborough, ON

Pinchin is on the lookout for individuals with a solid grasp of architectural and engineering principles to enhance our Building Science division.

The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of building systems, including architectural elements such as structural integrity, building enclosures, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing solutions, and interior components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Building and Property Condition Assessments to support due diligence and capital planning, adhering to ASTM standards and best practices.
  • Conduct assessments of existing structures, including roofs, exterior cladding, balconies, and parking garages, to evaluate design and remediation options.
  • Execute invasive assessments and testing, such as roof cut tests and leak detection.
  • Carry out necessary quantity take-offs and measurements throughout project phases.
  • Develop designs and specifications for restoration initiatives.
  • Oversee construction reviews to ensure compliance with quality standards and design specifications.
  • Compile detailed reports of findings, interpreting field data and creating comprehensive AutoCAD drawings.
  • Engage in financial coordination related to projects.
  • Uphold QA/QC protocols and health and safety standards within the team.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a degree in Architecture or Building Science.
  • Experience with Building Condition Assessments in line with ASTM guidelines is essential.
  • Familiarity with UniFormat and asset management software is a plus.
  • Prior experience in building construction or maintenance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and building envelope assemblies is advantageous.
  • Understanding of the Ontario Building Code is mandatory.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and reports is required.
  • Experience in writing technical reports is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Capability to safely transport tools and equipment is necessary.
  • Willingness to travel and possess a valid driver's license and personal vehicle is required.
