**About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Head of Systems Development to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our systems and technology infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development Management: Manage the development and implementation of customisation and configuration of legal practice management systems, including case management, document management, and financial systems.
  • End-to-End Software Delivery: Oversee the entire software delivery process, from requirements analysis to testing, release, and support, ensuring that projects meet specifications.
  • System Maintenance and Updates: Maintain and update existing systems to ensure optimal functionality and performance.
  • Process Improvement: Establish, review, and improve internal development processes and methodologies, adopting agile practices where appropriate.
  • Coding Standards: Ensure that coding standards are met by the team, ensuring stability, performance, readability, and maintainability.
  • Data Governance: Ensure appropriate governance, structure, and integrity of data, implementing best practices.
  • Data Analysis: Identify opportunities for gaining advantage through intelligent use and application of data.
  • Industry Trends: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Project Leadership: Lead and deliver software projects and programmes of various sizes.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with, support, and challenge cross-functional teams to formulate realistic, beneficial, and achievable requirements to facilitate optimal outcomes.
  • Reporting and Stakeholder Management: Produce meaningful progress reporting and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Documentation: Document system processes and configurations for future reference and training purposes.

Requirements:

  • Expertise: Expertise in implementing and managing case management, document management, and financial systems in a legal practice. Experience with Mattersphere and 3E would be beneficial.
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of database management systems, SQL, report writing, and data modelling.
  • Cloud Migration: Experience leading programmes to migrate systems from traditional on-premise to private and public cloud solutions.
  • Third-Party Management: Management of and interaction with third parties for software delivery.
  • Team Leadership: Team leadership, coaching, and development of software developers and analysts.
  • Credibility and Stakeholder Management: Expert in software delivery who comes across as credible and with good stakeholder management skills.
  • Legal Business Processes: Excellent understanding of legal business processes and the application of technology to them.
