Job Overview/Purpose

The Corporate Accounting Analyst will play a crucial role within the Corporate Accounting division, focusing on delivering accounting and analytical expertise to support the Corporate team and various special initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly reconciliations for a variety of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly accounting and banking entries.
  • Execute bank reconciliations for Corporate banking accounts.
  • Assist in analyzing the balance sheet and income statement by developing Excel models.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget for assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and the internal audit team to supply necessary documentation for reviews and audits.
  • Compile financial statements and notes disclosures for financial reports and Management Discussion and Analysis (MDA) for designated areas.
  • Examine reconciliations of GL accounts performed at the property level.
  • Engage with operations finance and property managers to ensure clarity on results and transactions, while providing guidance on complex accounting matters.
  • Assist in the administration of covenant reporting and forecasting activities.
  • Prepare the corporate monthly report binder.
  • Support corporate accounting projects and business planning initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for financial and operational process enhancements and assist in their implementation following appropriate approvals.
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Recent completion or progress towards a CPA professional accounting designation.

Experience:

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in general accounting, including the preparation and analysis of financial statements.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with IFRS standards.
  • Experience with accounting software, particularly Oracle Hyperion HFM and Yardi.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a keen interest in analytical tasks and investigations, along with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.
  • Ability to manage and validate substantial data sets.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Adaptability to changes, delays, or unforeseen events in the workplace.
  • Capability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Submission of a criminal record check may be required.
  • Participation in relevant conferences and educational courses as necessary.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be needed during peak periods.

Effort

  • The role demands a significant level of mental effort to analyze situations, verify information, and engage with computer systems.
  • Physical effort will involve keyboarding and attending periodic meetings.
