Role Overview

The Senior Accounting Analyst will report directly to the Senior Manager of Accounting within McKesson Specialty Health. This role is pivotal in ensuring the timely and accurate completion of monthly accounting close activities. Responsibilities encompass data analysis, journal entry preparation, financial statement generation, and variance analysis comparing current and prior fiscal periods. Additionally, this position will support the shared services team with balance sheet reconciliations and prepare monthly reconciliations for designated accounts while collaborating with business units as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analysis and reconciliation of monthly sales and cost of goods sold for assigned business units, including journal entry preparation for month-end close.
  • Generate and analyze financial statements, providing variance analysis for management review.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data by reviewing general ledger transactions for operational expenses and balance sheet items.
  • Prepare recurring journal entries, including allocations and prepaids.
  • Review and reconcile inventory transactions, ensuring alignment between SAP data and inventory subledger.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and support the shared services team in their reconciliation efforts.
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions and collaborate with other business units to resolve outstanding balances.
  • Serve as a liaison with headquarters to ensure accurate transaction capture in the SAP system.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate and accounting policies, including SOX regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of ad-hoc financial reports and complete additional tasks as assigned by management.

General Duties

  • Engage with internal and external partners to resolve issues and foster positive working relationships.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement within assigned processes.
  • Provide support during internal and external audit reviews.
  • Guide and mentor business users to achieve desired outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce with a focus on Accounting; CPA designation is required.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in month-end close accounting.
  • Proficient in Excel and knowledgeable in the MS Office suite.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other major ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Team-oriented with the capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive, positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ownership of responsibilities with a disciplined approach to work.
