About the Opportunity

This role is an integral part of the Squamish Nation's Administration Department, reporting directly to the Team Leader, Child, Youth and Community Awareness. The Child and Youth Support Worker - Life Skills Specialist will work in concert with the Ayás Mén̓men Case Management team to provide children and youth in care with one-on-one support as part of interdisciplinary case management. The position will also incorporate traditional Squamish teaching and values into a year-round calendar of recreational and cultural activities and programs for children/youth in care, and for any children/youth who want to learn to live in balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support to children and youth in care, working collaboratively with the case management team.
  • Develop and implement life skills programs that promote physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide access to recreational and cultural activities and programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection policies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience in child and youth work, social services, or a related field.
  • Professional, adaptable communication style with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity.
  • Maintains composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Able to disseminate complex information to stakeholders in a meaningful way.
  • Resourceful and organized with excellent time management abilities.
  • Able to deliver negative information tactfully and diplomatically when needed.
