Join our team as a Nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to become part of our Cardiac Care Unit. We invite you to be a vital member of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit include:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients who are at high risk and may require life-support systems, as well as those recovering from anesthesia, while functioning both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Enhance the quality of life from the viewpoint of patients and their families.
  • Engage in consultation, collaboration, and communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibit expertise and leadership in nursing practices.
  • Continuously maintain and enhance your clinical skills.
  • Participate in designated hospital committees, teams, and approved research initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Active registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of an accredited critical care nursing program or a minimum of two years of recent, relevant critical care experience.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Extensive understanding of nursing theories and practices within a patient-centered care model.
  • In-depth knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the indications, effects, routes, dosages, and potential side effects of anesthetics and other medications utilized in critical care settings.
  • Thorough understanding of common nursing challenges faced in critical care environments.
  • Profound knowledge of the physiological and psychological aspects of complex critical illnesses.
  • Awareness of other healthcare disciplines and their contributions to patient care.
  • Proven ability to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations effectively.
  • Demonstrated capability to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective care plans.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients, families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
  • Proficient written communication skills to convey information accurately and clearly.
  • Ability to educate patients and their families.
  • Leadership skills to guide and direct others.
  • Physical capability to perform the responsibilities of the role.
  • Proficiency in CPR techniques.
  • Skills in utilizing critical care monitoring and support equipment.
  • Basic computer skills to operate a computerized patient care information system.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may be adjusted based on operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Agreement and relevant regulations.

As per current Public Health Orders, all employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
