Position Overview

As a member of the STEAM Academy team, the educator plays a pivotal role in delivering a comprehensive educational experience that allows students to achieve a high school diploma alongside an industry-recognized college diploma. The academy is dedicated to equipping students with essential academic, technical, and professional skills that align with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the educator encompass, but are not limited to:

Instructional Planning and Development

  • Delivering effective instruction and assessing student progress in accordance with established curriculum guidelines;
  • Creating daily lesson plans and instructional outlines as required;
  • Setting clear objectives for lessons and effectively communicating these to students;
  • Preparing necessary materials and resources for classroom activities in advance;
  • Employing diverse teaching strategies and assessment methods to cater to the varied needs of students;

Assessment Implementation

  • Providing progress reports to the principal as requested;
  • Ensuring accurate completion of report cards in line with educational guidelines;
  • Administering and grading assessments to evaluate student performance and offering constructive feedback;

Student Support and Success

  • Collaborating with the student success team to develop tailored academic plans for students;
  • Engaging with parents, guardians, and other educators to address academic and behavioral challenges;

Classroom Management and Safety

  • Working with school leadership to maintain effective disciplinary practices;
  • Overseeing student supervision during various school activities;
  • Ensuring a safe and prepared learning environment;

Community Engagement and Professional Growth

  • Participating in community events and maintaining strong relationships with families;
  • Incorporating Indigenous culture and contemporary issues into the curriculum;
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices;

Administrative Duties

  • Supporting school leadership in compliance with educational standards;
  • Maintaining accurate student records and attendance;

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Proficiency in the Cayuga language;
  • Bachelor's degree in Education and certification from the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Experience with educational technology platforms.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of STEM/STEAM pathways and instructional best practices;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while respecting cultural values;

Criminal Background Check

The selected candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check prior to commencing employment.
