About the Role

Six Nations Polytechnic is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the STEAM Academy. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning needs of students with diverse abilities and learning styles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Student Learning: Assist students with individualized education plans, provide one-on-one support, and work with teachers to develop strategies to meet student needs.
  • Classroom Management: Supervise and monitor students during learning breaks, class time, and extracurricular activities, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with the community and cultural coordinator on initiatives, participate in community events, and maintain close affiliation with the community.
  • Professional Development: Attend and participate in required professional development sessions, actively engage in the STEAM Academy staff summer orientation program, and stay up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • General Administration: Assist with classroom inventory and perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Ontario Certified Educational Assistant (EA) or Teacher Aide (TA) diploma or equivalent, and Development Service Worker (DSW) or Youth Care Worker (YCW) experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to interact with students, parents, and teachers in a professional and respectful manner, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with standard desktop computing programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications, on the Windows 2010 (or later) operating system.
