Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Faculty of Arts & Science as a Research and Business Development Officer. This pivotal role involves fostering strategic business relationships and enhancing collaborative research initiatives.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Formulating and executing strategic plans to align research with industry requirements while adhering to the academic mission of the University.
  • Crafting compelling grant proposals and investment requests to secure funding for research and development projects.
  • Designing strategies to enhance the economic and social benefits of partnerships focused on commercialization.
  • Utilizing negotiation expertise to finalize the financial and operational terms of commercialization agreements.
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for collaborative research and development projects.
  • Providing expert guidance on specialized issues to a team of professionals.
  • Establishing project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Managing and monitoring complex budgets to ensure financial accountability.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in both academic and industrial research environments, particularly in computer science, statistics, and mathematics.
  • Proven experience in supporting graduate students, ideally through internship programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage program budgets effectively.
  • Strong writing skills for creating complex business documents and statistical reports.
  • Experience in developing and presenting business cases for academic-industry collaborations.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for consensus-building among diverse stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion in all interactions.
  • Capacity to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with industry-academic funding programs such as Mitacs, NSERC, and OCI.
