About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solicitor II to join our Legal Services team at CB Canada. As an Assistant City Solicitor II, you will play a key role in providing legal advice and representation to the City of St. Catharines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and representation to the City Council, CAO, and other City officials on various matters, including real property law and development.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal opinions, by-laws, and policy documents.
  • Carry out routine and complex real property transactions from negotiation to registration.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review legal agreements and other documents as necessary.
  • Advising and consulting with outside professionals on general municipal issues and providing instructions to external legal counsel as required.
  • Attend City Council and Committee meetings, preparing written reports and making presentations as required.
  • Assist in the management of the Department as directed by the Director of Legal Services and perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and graduation from a recognized University and Law School.
  • Law Society of Ontario membership, in good standing.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience practicing law, with a solid base of solicitors' experience in real estate transactions.
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing land development agreements, commercial contracts, and corporate law would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated attendance/attainment of recent professional development education.
  • Well-developed coaching, supervisory, and leadership skills with a proven ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
  • Excellent communication, research, and report writing skills.
  • The ability to work in a team environment, liaison with key external stakeholders, and individuals/departments at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as, demonstrate innovation and accomplishment.
  • Ability to work under conditions of strict confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
