About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant City Solicitor II to join our team at CB Canada. As a key member of our Legal Services division, you will provide expert legal advice and representation to the City of St. Catharines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and representation to the City Council, CAO, and other City officials on various matters, including real estate transactions, planning and development, and municipal law.
  • Assist in the preparation of by-laws, drafts, and reviews of agreements and contracts for the Corporation.
  • Represent the City in legal proceedings and real estate transactions, including negotiations and drafting of agreements.
  • Serve as Prosecutor for charges under the Provincial Offences Act, pursuant to the Building Code Act, Fire Code, and municipal bylaws.
  • Receive and process insurance claims.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and graduation from a recognized University and Law School.
  • Law Society of Ontario membership, in good standing.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience practicing law, with a solid base of solicitors' experience in real estate transactions, planning and development, and municipal law.
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing land development agreements, commercial contracts, and corporate law would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated attendance/attainment of recent professional development education.
  • Well-developed coaching, supervisory, and leadership skills with a proven ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
  • Excellent communication, research, and report writing skills.
  • The ability to work in a team environment, liaison with key external stakeholders, and individuals/departments at all levels of the organization, as well as, function effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as, demonstrate innovation and accomplishment.
  • Ability to work under conditions of strict confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs and the ability to adapt quickly to applicable software.
