We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Arborist II to join our team at the City of St. Catharines. As an Arborist II, you will be responsible for performing tree pruning and removal operations, inspecting and evaluating woody plants, and providing direction to forestry crew members on site.
Key Responsibilities- Tree Inspection and Evaluation: Perform tree inspections and evaluations to identify potential hazards and provide recommendations for pruning or removal.
- Tree Pruning and Removal: Prune or remove damaged, diseased, dying, or overgrown trees according to current policies and procedures.
- Job Site Supervision: Organize, control, and supervise job sites, including holding work protection and completing relevant documentation.
- Equipment Operation: Operate brush chippers, dielectric and arborist tools, aerial trucks, and cranes as required.
- Team Leadership: Provide functional leadership and direction to forestry crew members on site.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service and respond to needs of all customers and staff.
- Education: Graduation from a two-year community college program in Arboriculture or Forestry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications: Possess a valid International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification as an Arborist, and a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification for the trade of Utility Arborist.
- Experience: 3 years of tree climbing experience, good knowledge of pruning and removal of trees, and experience with the use of cranes for tree removal.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a team environment, and ability to work independently.
The successful candidate will be required to work outside in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wet weather. They will also be required to work flexible hours, including shifts for a 7-day, 24-hour operation, overtime, and winter control.
