Position Overview
As a Natural Gas Trading Specialist, you will play a crucial role within our Natural Gas Supply & Trading division, supporting the Refining & Supply Operations. The Natural Gas Team is tasked with monitoring supply and demand dynamics while ensuring product availability and optimizing returns for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute daily spot, monthly, and term trades in alignment with company protocols.
  • Assess and respond to Request for Proposal (RFP) opportunities.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of natural gas utilization across various business units and the factors influencing its consumption.
  • Negotiate contracts in accordance with North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) to establish partnerships with new counterparties.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including Treasury, Legal, Credit, and Tax, to verify contract terms and special provisions.
  • Participate in negotiations related to pipeline contracts and assist in executing Service Agreements.
  • Provide timely support to the Natural Gas Manager, including the development and execution of short-term trading and scheduling strategies.
  • Conduct on-call trading and scheduling duties.
  • Analyze market data and trends to inform trading strategies.
  • Formulate and implement trading strategies to achieve optimal economic outcomes.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to enhance seasonal, annual, and long-term plans.
  • Develop strategies in response to planned or unplanned maintenance and refinery turnaround activities.
  • Support the Commodity Risk Management team in developing analyses for non-standard hedging strategies.
  • Expand the natural gas business by identifying and pursuing new opportunities.
  • Foster strong relationships with counterparties, traders, schedulers, pipelines, and brokers.
  • Deliver presentations to senior management regarding strategy and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders engaged with natural gas operations.
  • Ensure routine deliverables to stakeholders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of natural gas market dynamics, including alternative fuels, power, and LNG.
  • Stay informed about rules and regulations governing pipeline General Terms and Conditions and manage existing contracts.
  • Collaborate with the Energy Transition team to integrate Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) supply with existing infrastructure.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in energy market analysis is advantageous.
  • Background in trading natural gas or other energy products.
  • Familiarity with natural gas scheduling and knowledge of North American markets and pipelines is beneficial.
  • Experience in supply chain management.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with strong negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
