Position Overview
As a Natural Gas Trading Specialist, you will play a crucial role within our Natural Gas Supply & Trading division, contributing to the Refining & Supply Operations. The Natural Gas Team is tasked with analyzing supply and demand dynamics while ensuring product availability and optimizing returns for the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to execute physical trades and formulate trading strategies in alignment with company policies, while also assessing market conditions to create value. Additionally, you will manage scheduling responsibilities across various pipelines throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute daily spot, monthly, and term trades in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Assess and respond to Request for Proposal (RFP) opportunities.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of natural gas usage across various business units and the factors influencing its consumption.
  • Negotiate contracts in accordance with North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) to foster relationships with new counterparties.
  • Negotiate terms for buy/sell agreements, including pricing, volume, location, and timeframes.
  • Engage in pipeline contract negotiations and assist in the execution of Service Agreements.
  • Provide timely support to the Natural Gas Manager, including the development and execution of trading and scheduling strategies.
  • Perform on-call trading and scheduling duties as required.
  • Analyze market data and trends to guide trading strategy decisions.
  • Formulate and implement trading strategies to achieve optimal economic results.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to enhance seasonal, annual, and long-term plans.
  • Develop strategies to address planned or unplanned maintenance and refinery turnaround activities.
  • Support the Commodity Risk Management team in creating analyses for non-standard hedging strategies.
  • Expand the natural gas business by identifying and pursuing new opportunities and customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with counterparties, traders, schedulers, pipelines, and brokers.
  • Deliver presentations to senior management regarding strategic initiatives and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders engaged with natural gas operations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of routine deliverables for all internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of alternative fuels, power, and LNG relevant to the natural gas market.
  • Stay informed about regulations and terms governing pipeline contracts and manage existing agreements.
  • Work with the Energy Transition team to integrate Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) supply with existing infrastructure.
Required Skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in energy market analysis is advantageous.
  • Background in trading natural gas or other energy commodities.
  • Prior experience in natural gas scheduling and knowledge of North American markets and pipelines is beneficial.
  • Experience in supply chain management.
  • Highly skilled in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with strong negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
