As a Natural Gas Trader at 09 Irving Oil Limited, you will be an integral part of our Energy Supply & Trading team, supporting the Refining & Supply Operations. Our team is responsible for monitoring supply and demand trends, ensuring availability of product, and maximizing returns for the company.
Key Responsibilities- Execute daily spot, monthly, and term trades in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and respond to Request for Proposal (RFP) opportunities to identify potential business partnerships.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of how natural gas is utilized within various consuming business units, as well as issues that impact its use.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers, buyers, marketers, and brokers to establish relationships and secure favorable terms.
- Participate in pipeline contract negotiations and assist in executing Service Agreements.
- Provide timely support to the Manager, Natural Gas, including development, management, and execution of short-term or spot physical trading and scheduling strategies.
- Perform on-call trading and scheduling duties, analyzing market information and trends to inform decisions on trading strategies.
- Develop and implement trading strategies to achieve best economic outcomes, identifying opportunities to optimize seasonal, annual, and 5-year plans.
- Support the Commodity Risk Management team in the development of analyses for non-standard hedging strategies in accordance with company policies.
- Grow the natural gas business through identification and execution of new opportunities, soliciting new customers, and developing strong relationships with counterparties, traders, schedulers, pipelines, and brokers.
- Provide periodic presentations to senior management regarding strategy and financial performance.
- Collaborate and provide support to all internal stakeholders who are closely engaged with natural gas, ensuring routine deliverables are complete accurately and on-time.
- Post-secondary education in business, economics, finance-related disciplines, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5 or more years of related experience, preferably in energy markets analysis, trading, or supply chain management.
- Experience in trading of natural gas or other energy products, with prior natural gas scheduling experience and knowledge of North American natural gas markets and pipelines being an asset.
- Supply chain management experience and highly proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- An entrepreneurial and commercial mindset with strong negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
