ROLE SUMMARY
As a key member of the Strategic Communications team at CCS, the Public Relations Coordinator will primarily focus on enhancing awareness of CCS's mission among external audiences. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, this role involves developing and implementing communication strategies that highlight the impact of our programs, services, and advocacy efforts. Responsibilities include content creation, project management, media monitoring, and both proactive and reactive media relations, with a specific emphasis on supporting the expanded Cancer Travel and Accommodation Services (CTAAS) in British Columbia.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in executing communication strategies and tools that align with organizational priorities, particularly in travel and transportation services.
- Plan and implement media relations and public relations initiatives as necessary.
- Collaborate with brand marketing and digital engagement teams to enhance marketing and social communication efforts.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to create a variety of compelling communication materials, including press releases, key messages, fact sheets, speeches, presentations, and digital content.
- Support the writing and editing of various mission-related documents, including reports, speaking notes, presentations, and social media content.
- Manage content approvals and dissemination among internal and external stakeholders efficiently and professionally.
- Serve as a media contact for CCS, handling media inquiries, supporting spokespeople, and tracking media outcomes.
- Conduct media monitoring and reporting for CCS, proactively identifying emerging issues or opportunities in the news.
- Respond to public inquiries promptly and professionally, collaborating with internal experts for accurate information.
- Post content to relevant platforms as needed.
- Provide additional support to the Strategic Communications team as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, with 3 to 5 years of experience in media relations or communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture.
- Demonstrated experience in communication strategies and tactics, including media and public relations.
- Strong understanding of the media landscape, particularly in British Columbia.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong editing skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, project management, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
- Ability to produce high-quality results under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
- Proven ability to develop creative solutions to challenges and manage issues effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience in video production is a plus.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
- Experience in a health-related environment, cancer organization, or non-profit setting is advantageous.
- Experience in advocacy, public policy, or government relations communication is beneficial.
