Public Relations and Outreach Assistant

Odyssey Theatre is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Public Relations and Outreach Assistant to join our team for the summer season. As a key member of our marketing team, you will be responsible for creating and implementing effective community outreach campaigns, providing information to the public, and engaging and facilitating participation by diverse community groups underserved by the arts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing and implementing community outreach initiatives to promote our arts programs and events.
  • Research and identify groups working with diverse and underserved members of the community to schedule bookings for community groups to attend and participate in theatre and arts events.
  • Assist in creating written and visual promotional materials, including social media posts, press releases, and event flyers.
  • Update our website and social media channels with the latest information on our events and programs.
  • Post information on online event sites to promote Odyssey's activities.
  • Assist in creating blogs, interviews, and taking photos and videos to showcase our events and programs.
  • Distribute printed and digital marketing materials to promote our events and programs.
  • Respond to public enquiries accurately and promptly, assisting people to register and obtain tickets for events.
  • Maintain and update databases, including mailing and donor lists.
Requirements:
  • Courses in Theatre, Marketing, Communications, Media/Public Relations or similar.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent telephone skills and dealing with community groups and the public.
  • Outgoing, positive attitude in dealing with the public.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Excellent digital skills (Mac, Microsoft Office, Canva, WordPress, etc.).
  • Experience with Social Media platforms.
  • Ability to show initiative.
  • Ability to work independently.
