The Native Women's Association of Canada is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to guide the organization in fulfilling its Mission and Vision while achieving sustainable growth and revenue to support Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The primary aim of the COO position is to ensure the operational efficiency, stability, and functionality of the organization's daily activities. The Chief Operating Officer will manage the organization's operations under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to establish and drive the organizational vision, operational strategy, and staffing requirements;
  • Transform strategic objectives into actionable goals for performance and growth, facilitating organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operational planning;
  • Supervise operations and employee productivity, fostering an inclusive culture that enables team members to excel and meet organizational outcomes;
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, federal, provincial, and local business regulations, taking necessary actions when required;
  • Design and implement operational and business strategies, plans, and procedures;
  • Set comprehensive performance and growth goals;
  • Work with the Senior Management Team to address daily operational demands and delegate tasks effectively;
  • Develop and enforce policies that promote the organization's culture and mission;
  • Oversee the daily operations of the organization, including management of various departments (Policy, Corporate, Marketing, Finance, etc.);
  • Inspire employees to achieve maximum performance, morale, and commitment;
  • Assess organizational performance by analyzing and interpreting relevant data and metrics;
  • Provide briefings to the Chief Executive Officer and prepare reports on significant matters;
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer in fundraising and revenue-generating initiatives;
  • Participate in expansion efforts (investments, program development);
  • Manage relationships with partners and vendors;
  • Aid in the development and execution of measurable revenue generation programs across the NWAC Social and Cultural Innovation Centre revenue streams;
  • Formulate and implement promotional and sales strategies for all revenue streams;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in executive leadership roles, preferably within a large non-profit organization.
  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience.
  • At least 10 years in leadership positions.
  • 10 years of experience in a dynamic work environment.
  • Direct supervision of more than 10 staff members for a minimum of five years.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring successful project and program delivery.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal skills, business insight, and exemplary work ethic.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and globally, including their cultures, histories, and traditions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary issues affecting Indigenous business in Canada.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous issues and standards relevant to the promotion and protection of Indigenous women's rights.
  • Awareness of key challenges impacting Indigenous women and girls both domestically and internationally.
  • Understanding of social policy, including violence prevention and health, housing, etc.
  • Strong grasp of finance and budgeting principles.

  • Solid analytical skills and familiarity with performance metrics.
