About the Role

As a vital member of the interdisciplinary chronic pain team, the Psychologist will report directly to the Health Services Manager. This position focuses on delivering comprehensive services to adults and their families dealing with chronic pain. The Psychologist will play a key role in leading and supporting the WZ chronic pain team in the formulation, implementation, and assessment of evidence-based chronic pain interventions, utilizing a biopsychosocial framework.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other team members to prioritize patient care while providing thorough assessments, diagnoses, consultations, and therapeutic interventions. Proficiency in conducting both individual and group therapy sessions is essential. Additionally, the Psychologist will engage with family physicians and various service providers, as well as community organizations, to ensure holistic care delivery. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, including peer supervision for ongoing professional development, is also expected.

Candidate Profile

We invite applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited Clinical Psychology program
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP)
  • A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience, including at least one year specifically in chronic pain management
  • Preferred experience in a Primary Health Care setting
  • Advanced skills in psychotherapy
  • Experience in research and educational delivery is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to employ a client- and family-centered approach
  • Competence in psychological assessment techniques
  • Proven experience in conducting both individual and group psychotherapy, including brief therapeutic interventions
  • Experience in developing group therapy programs
  • Ability to perform comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments
  • Familiarity with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
  • Skill in collaborating with clients and families to reach joint formulations
  • Strong communication skills

  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Proficiency in additional languages is preferred; French is an asset

Work Schedule
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours will include days, with potential evenings and weekends
  • Travel to various locations may be necessary
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this position is $49.04.

Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
