About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Psychologist is a key member of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary chronic pain team providing services to adults and their families. The Psychologist plays a pivotal role in the development, delivery, and evaluation of evidence-based, chronic pain care within the biopsychosocial model. The incumbent will collaborate with other team members to triage patient care, while providing assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy. The ability to conduct both individual and group treatment is required. Additionally, the Psychologist will work collaboratively with family physicians and other service providers and community agencies in the context of providing care. The successful candidate will be required to participate in quality improvement initiatives, including peer supervision processes for ongoing clinical development.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Masters degree from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP)
  • A minimum of two years related clinical experience, including one year of clinical experience with chronic pain
  • Experience working in a Primary Health Care environment is preferred
  • Advanced psychotherapy skills
  • Experience with research and delivering education is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach
  • Competency in the use of psychological testing
  • Demonstrated experience conducting both individual and group psychotherapy, including brief therapy
  • Demonstrated experience in development of group psychotherapy programs
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
  • Ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability and comfort in working flexibly and creatively to provide services
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies is considered an asset
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages are preferred; French is an asset
Hours

This is a permanent full-time position, with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hours include days and may include evenings and weekends. Travel to various sites may be required.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary of $49.04 per hour. Additionally, they may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
