The Government of Nunavut has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers and is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment. Our goal is to enhance our unique governance model, which integrates Inuit societal values and promotes the use of the Inuktut language. We strive for a representative public service and work collaboratively with partners to fulfill the promise of Nunavut. Successful candidates will receive a competitive salary, comprehensive medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation assistance, and opportunities for professional development.

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is a government agency dedicated to addressing the housing needs of one of Canada's fastest-growing populations. NHC's mission is to develop, coordinate, and manage housing programs that ensure equitable access to a variety of affordable housing options for families and individuals. Recently, NHC initiated The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, a collaborative effort aimed at delivering 3,000 new housing units by 2030.

Reporting directly to the VP of Finance and Corporate Services, the Director of Policy and Strategic Planning is responsible for overseeing the formulation and evaluation of NHC's legislation and policies, as well as preparing briefings and decision-making documents. This role involves leading strategic planning efforts across the department, including the collection, documentation, and analysis of housing-related data. The Director also coordinates information for the Minister, President and CEO, and Board of Directors to effectively represent the Corporation.

The Director plays a crucial role in facilitating informed decision-making, ensuring alignment of plans and activities, and establishing organized and effective planning and policy frameworks. Additionally, this position is integral to the Corporation's crisis management strategy and overall reputation management.

The qualifications for this role typically include an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field. Candidates should possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience in policy development and analysis, strategic planning, communications, and public relations, including at least three (3) years in a managerial capacity.

We welcome applicants with equivalent combinations of education and experience. This is a Position of Trust, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resumes in any of the official languages. Proficiency in multiple official languages is considered an asset, as is knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, and experience in a northern cross-cultural environment.

  • The Government of Nunavut is dedicated to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.
  • Current employees of the Government of Nunavut serving a probationary period must obtain written authorization from their deputy head to apply.
  • Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates; an assessment will be made based on the position's scope and duties.
  • Applicants may submit their resumes in any of the Official Languages of Nunavut.
  • Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
  • Candidates with foreign post-secondary education credentials must have their credentials assessed through a recognized Canadian institution.
