Position Overview:

The FLES Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing operations at the site level, ensuring alignment with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the delivery of essential Food, Linen, and Environmental Services (FLES). This position is crucial for fostering a productive and positive workplace environment while meeting service standards and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Supervisor is responsible for:

  1. Leading and managing frontline FLES personnel, ensuring that service levels are met and a positive work atmosphere is maintained.
  2. Facilitating effective communication and engagement with team members and stakeholders.
  3. Ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines, standards, and regulatory requirements pertaining to FLES.
  4. Acting as the primary contact for site administration and patient care regarding FLES-related matters.
  5. Participating in and promoting quality improvement initiatives and workplace health and safety protocols.
  6. Maintaining safe work practices and conditions for all staff.
  7. Monitoring and managing supply, food, and labor costs to meet financial objectives.

Travel Requirements:

Supervisors in rural areas may oversee multiple sites, necessitating travel according to a predetermined schedule. Flexibility is essential, as site meetings or urgent matters may require same-day travel to various locations.

Essential Duties:

The role encompasses:

  1. Human resource management, including recruitment, retention, and performance evaluations.
  2. Implementing quality and safety measures that align with industry standards.
  3. Making strategic decisions at the unit level to support FLES goals.
  4. Assisting in the planning and organization of Patient Food Services and Housekeeping needs, including staffing and record-keeping.
  5. Promoting leadership in identifying FLES challenges and recommending solutions.
  6. Engaging with clinical customers to maintain strong relationships and address escalated issues.
  7. Keeping management informed of significant events and activities within facilities.
  8. Conducting regular quality audits and ensuring follow-up actions are taken.
  9. Overseeing waste management practices and cleaning protocols.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Nutrition, Business, or Food Service Management. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required, along with strong independent working capabilities and proficient computer skills. Candidates must demonstrate critical thinking abilities and the capacity to motivate and inspire teams.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in healthcare settings and supervisory roles within a unionized environment is advantageous. Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control, as well as Food Safety Guidelines, is preferred.
