Montreal, Quebec, Canada Institut de recherches cliniques de Montreal (IRCM) Full time $45,000 - $70,000
Position Overview

The Institut de recherches cliniques de Montreal (IRCM) is actively seeking a dedicated Research Scientist to join our esteemed Molecular Physiology Research Unit, led by Dr. Mathieu Ferron. This role involves engaging in innovative research projects focused on the significance of post-translational modifications, specifically gamma-carboxylation, in the functionality of pancreatic beta cells and their implications in diabetes.

Research Focus

Our team has identified several novel gamma-carboxylated proteins within beta cells, which may play critical roles in protein folding and quality control processes in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This research initiative is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Ferron laboratory is recognized globally for its expertise in the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research, including the design and execution of experiments.
  • Analyze experimental data and present findings at both local and international scientific meetings.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals.
  • Supervise and mentor laboratory students.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated independence and productivity in laboratory settings.
  • The ability to formulate new research hypotheses to address scientific inquiries.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Working Environment

The Ferron laboratory fosters a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory atmosphere. The IRCM is committed to attracting and retaining top-tier researchers and provides a supportive environment for the training of students and postdoctoral fellows. We value diversity and strive to create a workplace that reflects a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.

Compensation

The financial support for this position is competitive, with a salary of 45,000 CAD. The duration of the contract will be discussed with the research director.

Join us in our mission to advance scientific knowledge and contribute to the understanding of metabolic diseases.
