Job Title: Access Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Access Support Specialist to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As an Access Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that deaf and hard of hearing students have equal access to educational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide real-time print transcription of spoken language to support deaf and hard of hearing students in the classroom.
  • Edit and review transcribed notes for student use.
  • Research topics and prepare in advance for curriculum content and terminology in regular classrooms and other educational settings.
  • Liaise between the teacher of the deaf and regular teachers regarding any issues arising in regular classes which may impact on student progress.
  • Work as an active member of the school team to ensure the safety and success of all students.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Attend professional development sessions/training as required.
Requirements:
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post-secondary education.
  • Minimum one year related experience.
  • Experience in communicating with deaf/hard of hearing individuals.
  • Excellent grammar and typing skills.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
