Overview

EVRAZ North America is in search of a qualified Safety Manager to enhance our safety initiatives. This pivotal role involves contributing to the safety culture as a vital member of the site leadership and the Canadian Operations Safety team. The position emphasizes engaging with teams to foster a safer work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority on the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations for the facility.
  • Support and improve Industrial Hygiene programs with a focus on continuous enhancement.
  • Develop and maintain standardized tools to evaluate the effectiveness of safety management systems and pinpoint areas for improvement.
  • Lead and guide operational teams in fulfilling safety management obligations.
  • Ensure adherence to the Contractor Safety Policy.
  • Offer direction and assistance to the facility's joint health and safety committee.
  • Supervise and advise union safety representatives on safety protocols and technical safety matters.
  • Collaborate with disability claims advisors and Occupational Injury Specialist clinics to facilitate safe accommodations and return-to-work strategies for employees.
  • Oversee and conduct compliance audits and physical inspections of the plant.
  • Maintain necessary records and documentation as mandated by national or provincial regulations.
  • Update and manage existing cardinal safety programs.
  • Monitor the completion of corrective actions identified through audits or investigations.
  • Engage directly with Plant Operations Managers and Senior Management to establish loss prevention goals and develop plans to achieve them.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in managing a comprehensive safety program within an industrial setting.
  • A recognized safety certification such as CRSP or NCSO is preferred.
  • Proven experience in implementing safety management systems and driving continuous improvement, particularly in risk assessments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of positively influencing others' behavior.
