Position Overview:

As the HR Operations Leader at GATX Corporation, you will be instrumental in aligning human resources strategies with the organization's overarching goals. Your responsibilities will encompass employee relations, policy formulation, performance enhancement, and training initiatives. You will collaborate closely with the facility's Leadership Team and act as a strategic partner to the Service Center Manager, offering insights and support across all human resources dimensions.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee and Labor Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison for local union interactions, utilizing strong problem-solving capabilities to assist management with grievances.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into complaints, distilling findings for senior management and proposing actionable recommendations.
  • Foster a culture of positive employee relations throughout the organization, ensuring equitable treatment for all staff members.
  • Advise on collective bargaining agreements, workplace regulations, and attendance policies.

Talent Development and Performance Management

  • Design and implement programs aimed at enhancing employee professional growth across the company.
  • Initiate efforts to boost employee engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Oversee the recruitment process, including crafting job descriptions, evaluating applications, conducting interviews, and extending job offers.
  • Work in tandem with hiring managers and the Talent, Learning & Development team to streamline the onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Provide continuous performance management support, offering constructive feedback and coaching to both employees and supervisors.
  • Assess workforce challenges and personnel allocation, proposing alternative strategies as needed.

Operational Excellence

  • Manage all administrative functions related to employees, including counseling, benefits coordination, recruitment, and timekeeping.
  • Monitor and ensure the timely completion of performance evaluations for new hires.

This role necessitates interaction with employees at various levels, corporate divisions, and prospective candidates. Your contributions will be vital in attracting, developing, and retaining talent while ensuring exemplary HR practices. The ability to make informed decisions with impartiality and sound judgment will be essential. Reporting to the HR Director - Operations and the Service Center Manager, you will have the opportunity to significantly impact GATX Corporation's success.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with applicant tracking systems is advantageous.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources, ideally within a unionized environment in the manufacturing sector or a related industry.
  • HR Certification is preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Some travel may be required for this position.
  • Ability to work effectively and safely in an industrial setting is essential.
