You will collaborate closely with the facility Leadership Team and act as a trusted advisor to the Service Center Manager, providing essential support to staff in all human resources matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee and Labor Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison for local union interactions, showcasing your adept problem-solving abilities while assisting management with formal grievances.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into complaints, compiling findings for senior management and recommending suitable actions.
  • Foster a culture of positive employee relations throughout the organization, ensuring fair treatment for all personnel.
  • Advise on collective bargaining agreements, workplace regulations, and attendance policies.

Talent Development and Performance Management

  • Design and implement programs that promote the professional growth of employees across the company.
  • Initiate strategies to enhance employee engagement, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Oversee the recruitment process, which includes crafting job descriptions, screening applications, conducting interviews, and extending job offers.
  • Work in partnership with hiring managers and the Talent, Learning & Development team to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Provide continuous performance management support, including feedback and coaching for both employees and supervisors.
  • Evaluate workplace issues and personnel assignments, proposing alternative solutions as necessary.

Operational Excellence

  • Manage all administrative functions related to employee services, including counseling, benefits coordination, recruitment, and timekeeping.
  • Monitor and ensure the timely completion of performance reviews for new hires.

This role will require collaboration with employees at various levels, corporate departments, and prospective candidates. Your contributions will be vital in attracting, developing, and retaining talent while ensuring excellence in HR operations. Your capacity to make informed decisions with impartial judgment will be essential. Reporting to the HR Director - Operations and the Service Center Manager, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact at GATX Corporation.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with applicant tracking systems is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources, ideally within a unionized environment in the manufacturing sector or a similar industry.
  • HR Certification is considered a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Some travel may be necessary for this position.
  • Ability to work effectively and safely in an industrial environment is required.
